SCRAP METAL IN LONDON AND ROYAL NEVY FLY 100 CENTENARY (MAY 2009)

Royal Navy ship HMS Illustrious downs anchor in Greenwich as part of a centenary celebration. Did the personnel of this British navy vessel know in just a few years the warship would be out of service to be sold as scrap? In the images below Illustrious sees helicopters take off against a Canary Wharf backdrop. Static aircraft - Helipcopters and Harrier jet were on terra firma in the apt location of the Royal Naval College grounds. Helicopters taking part in the Fly Past air parade included a Merlin, Sea-king and Lynx.
