the four faces of the London icon that is big Ben are due for a wash today and it's nice to see in today's advancing of all things technical the cleaning of the delicate glass panels is done in a traditional way, by hand or hands. Each face of opaque white glass is caredfully cleaned by four guys who have abseiled from a position on the Elizabeth tower to remove the accumulated and inevitable grime, dirt and anything else adhering to the glass. I hope these guys are wearing earplugs because though the hands have been prevented for turning and remain for the duration of the clean at 12 O'clock the gongs and chimes continued as normal and they are loud.
