Guildhall is a grade 1 listed building which is the highest grade afforded to any architecture of significant interest. Of all the listed buildings within the UK, Grade 1 accounts for just 2 1/2 percent of the total 460,000 graded and listed buildings. Guildhall is located within the City proper area of London which is distinct from the catch-all city of London the latter could extend to boroughs and areas borderings and sometimes including the counties surrounding London wheras the 'City of London' is a defined area that is commonly called the 'square mile', a district heavily defined by the financial sector. Dating back to 1440, Guildhall is the only surviving stone building within the City that is non-ecclesiastical (relating to the Christian church). It hosts ceremonial and Corporation events today
