NEW DRIVERLESS ROUTEMASTER BUS MAKES ITS DEBUT IN TRAFALGAR SQUARE (2011)
since taking this photo back in 2011 when the latest incarnation of the iconic red Routemaster bus made its London debut it has become a common sight on London's roads. The BorisBus is a hybrid powered bus running on diesel-electricity. As with the much loved older Routemaster it has a hop-on hop-off ability but unlike the older bus this useful option is not always available. The new bus has some improved upon areas compared to the old style bus and these include two staircases (the older bus had one); three door accessibility compared to one and air conditioning though the latter has come in for some criticism, as has a gloomier upper deck compared to the older bus and also smaller windows. This particular bus is unique as with the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) trains it too is driverless relying on special cameras and sensors to navigate its route around London!
